Event Details

The March oolichan run is a big deal in Northwestern BC! Oolichans, small and oily fish, are a prized delicacy by both the local First Nations and the local wildlife.

In March, thousands of eagles, seagulls and more descend from above onto the Skeena River to feast on these fatty fish. From below, hundreds of sea lions and seals head up the Skeena, some well over 100kms, to gorge on the oily fish.

For us – it is an unmatched wildlife spectacle. These animals are so busy feeding – they don’t even pay attention to the boat.

This is a non-invasive, low impact, low noise float. The priority on this trip is the wildlife viewing. If tides and time permit, we may take a soak on the hot springs before heading to the Cassiar Cannery for a four-course, fine-dining dinner.

After a good night’s sleep, you will board VIA Rail here for a quick scenic train ride back to the Terrace VIA Rail station.
