Join us for a small group hike on our local trail system through the coastal rainforest up to a WWII lookout post on Mt. Hays. Clear days afford a view that stretches over Digby Island and across Chatham Sound to the outer islands. On the return, we visit “The King” a giant Western Red Cedar tree.
The forest here goes through patches of muskeg that can be wet and mucky if we have recently had rain or it is the shoulder- or off-season. Rain boots are a good idea or waterproof hiking boots/shoes paired with gaiters (we can provide gaiters if needed.) We provide hiking poles, snacks and water. Transportation to the trail head can also be provided upon request.
Cost: $85 per person
Duration: Approximately 3-4 hours
Difficulty: Moderate. The trail to the lookout is uphill but at a moderate grade. There are a few areas that may require you to climb over or under a fallen tree or other obstacle as well as the potential for wet, muddy or slippery sections. The trail is maintained by volunteers and as such is in a relatively natural state.
