This fall the Lester Centre is hosting a women’s writing and movement circle facilitated by the Crow’s Nest Collective. Through a series of investigations into personal gesture and story, we will develop the tools of collective creation. Starting with warm-up exercises to awaken the body/mind/breath connections, we will explore patterns to develop locomotion and coordination skills. Participants will be introduced to improvisation exercises and apply techniques to generate dance vocabulary based on personal gesture. Movement motifs will be established through individual and duet exploration on themes. Throughout the workshop, we will develop of the seeds of collective creation and group visioning.
Home: Our Way holds safe space for community members to engage in a collective creation process amongst peers with professional mentorship from Coast Salish Storyteller, Rosemary Georgeson, and Canadian dance artists Olivia C. Davies and Emily Long. Safe space is held through collective agreement with consideration to protocols and customs. Embodied movement explorations are coupled with creative writing prompts to develop a dance that conveys story and meaning.
